Snow reliability is strong, and Grandvalira's snowmaking system — one of the most extensive in the Pyrenees — covers the critical lower runs. The other ski domain is Vallnord, covering Pal, Arinsal and Arcalís in the north-west. Pal-Arinsal is better suited to families and beginners with gentler gradients; Arcalís, isolated at the end of the Vallnord valley, is the powder-hunter's secret — steep off-piste terrain, lighter crowds, and some of the most challenging lines in Andorra. In summer, both domains run bike parks and the whole country transforms into a mountain-biking and hiking destination: the Grandvalira Bike Park in El Tarter, the Vallnord Bike Park at Pal-Arinsal and the network of high-mountain trails connecting the two massifs attract cyclists from across Europe. The Pyrenees geology delivers dramatic cirques, glacial lakes (Estany de l'Angonella is reachable on a half-day hike) and Romanesque chapels that predate the principality itself.
