Spring Bay and The Crawl, adjacent National Park areas, have similarly spectacular boulder coastline with fewer visitors than the main Baths access point.

Sailing is the defining activity of the BVI and the reason the territory hosts one of the Caribbean’s most visited charter fleets. The Sir Francis Drake Channel — the protected waterway between Tortola’s south coast and Norman Island, Peter Island, Salt Island and Cooper Island — offers predictable trade winds, short passages between anchorages and a circuit of stunning anchorages that can be covered in a week by bareboat or crewed charter. Norman Island is the model for Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island; its caves at Treasure Point, accessible only by dinghy or swimming, are among the most atmospheric snorkelling sites in the territory. The Wreck of the RMS Rhone — a British Royal Mail ship sunk in the hurricane of 1867 off Salt Island — is one of the Caribbean’s premier wreck dives; the Rhone’s bow section sits in 24 metres of water and its stern in 8 metres. Jost Van Dyke is a small island (population: around 300) that has achieved Caribbean-wide fame for its beach bars: Foxy’s Tamarind Bar, on Great Harbour, is a legendary gathering point for sailors and the site of the New Year’s Eve party that draws yacht crews from across the Caribbean and the US East Coast.
