Flamingos are a characteristic sight on the island's salt flats. Saba, rising dramatically to 877 metres (the top of Mount Scenery), is the smallest jurisdiction in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is covered in lush tropical rainforest with excellent hiking trails. Sint Eustatius (Statia) was once known as the "Golden Rock" — a major 18th-century trading hub through which vast quantities of goods passed between Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
