Fogo island, dominated by the dramatic 2,829-metre Pico do Fogo stratovolcano, is among the most visually striking landscapes in the entire Atlantic: the volcano last erupted in 2014 and the lava flows from that eruption run right through the Chã das Caldeiras caldera village.
